PUBLIC OUTREACH
Mountain Con Public Meetings - October 2008 • Montana Standard article
Butte is undergoing exciting changes and we need the community to play an active role. The Butte Restoration Alliance, a diverse group of citizens, advises local, state and federal governments on future restoration projects in Butte and Silver Bow County. Projects will seek a balance between environmental concerns and other more aesthetically and culturally enhancing projects that make Butte a more desirable place to live.
Restoring the Butte Hill and the Silver Bow Creek Headwaters must be a community effort. The dedicated and committed involvement of Alliance members will help the community work together to take full advantage of opportunities for restoration and redevelopment in Butte. The Alliance will solicit new ideas, confirm public support on existing plans and ongoing projects, establish a set of priority projects for the future, and provide community based support to projects endorsed by the Alliance.
To make this happen, the Alliance will conduct several public meetings. Watch this page for additional information and the schedule.
Mountain Con Mine Yard Development:
PUBLIC TOURS AND INPUT SESSIONS
The Alliance is conducting public tours of the Mountain Con mine yard and vicinity as a lead-in to a public meeting soliciting input regarding how the mine yard should be used and developed. The area is the target of the next phase of remediation, and public comment is sought on the plans by ARCO and EPA to clean up and revitalize this area, and to prepare it for public use according to the Regional Historic Preservation Plan and the Heritage Park concept.
Organized tours of the yard will be conducted on four dates. Please try to arrive at the north gate of the Mountain Con, near the east end of Center Street, at the start of the time period.
- Monday October 27, 2008, 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m.
The next regular Alliance meeting, Tuesday October 28, 7:00 p.m., will be held at the Blaine Center in Walkerville and will be devoted to the Mountain Con question. The public is invited to attend, both to gain information to be provided by the Alliance's four subcommittees (Neighborhood Enhancement, Recreation, Historic Preservation, and Environmental), and most importantly, to provide input -- we want YOUR ideas for how this area should develop.
